Structural interventions in testing and monitoring against the proliferation of Tuberculosis and HIV within overcrowded prison pavilions.
The Program for the Elimination of Tuberculosis in the Bahia Prison System (PETSP-BA) acts at the forefront of combating infectious diseases in environments of deprivation of liberty. In a coordinated action, we promote Mass Testing and rapid, accurate Diagnosis for the early identification of cases.
Institutionally supported by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), the Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration and Resocialization (Seap), and the Bahia State Secretariat of Health (Sesab), our operations ensure tracking of the vicious cycle of transmission before generalized outbreaks occur, offering not only the identification of associated pathogens but also guaranteeing direct and universal referral to appropriate treatment.
We bring a portable X-ray with cutting-edge algorithmic support directly to the units, allowing for real-time immediate detection and screening of pulmonary patterns suggestive of Tuberculosis.
Immediate breaking of the contagion chain inside and outside the walls through humanized clinical isolation.
Universal screening of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PPL) in high-density pavilions.
Guaranteeing the continuity of medical treatment throughout custody and post-release.
Supervised distribution of essential supplies and medicines approved by the Unified Health System (SUS).
